FAQs

  • Drama Therapy combines elements of psychology, theatre, creative arts, and other therapeutic modalities to create a space for people to express elements of their life, lived experiences, and inner world in a safe-enough space.

Drama therapy offers the same form of talk-based work that traditional western forms of therapy offer in addition to the element of using one’s body, objects, toys, puppets, and other forms of art to express what may be difficult to put into words.

  • Drama Therapy can be used to work through a variety of difficulties that occur in people’s lives. The approach that Atlas takes is not to treat a “problem” but rather to work alongside a client so that together they can find ways to overcome the many challenges that life throws at people.

Many people can benefit from drama therapy, but topics that drama therapy can be beneficial to work through include trauma, grief and loss, oppression, couple and family struggles, colonial trauma, homophobic violence, racial violence, embracing neurodiversity, and many other topics that life may present for someone.

  • No, I do not give diagnoses. While I am educated about the DSM-V-TR, drama therapists do not diagnose from the DSM. Additionally, my approach to wholistic healing pushes against the grain of colonial practices such as diagnoses and aims to include an image of the whole picture of what someone is experiencing in their life. While I believe the DSM can be a good marker for some practitioners to understand generally what symptoms someone may be experiencing, I am to help people examine the full picture of what is not working in their life as well as what brings them joy and fulfillment.

  • Sessions are priced on a sliding scale from $45-$100 per session. For sliding scale prices, you can choose a price within this range that feels like it is financially acceptable for you.

I am a strong advocate for accessible care. In an ideal world, everyone would have access to completely free health care services—including mental health care. So even though free mental health care is not attainable right now, I strive to work out with my clients how much they are able to pay. For special circumstances, please feel free to contact me to work out alternative prices if this sliding scale is not accessible to you.

  • Currently, I do not accept insurance, unfortunately.

  • Individual Sessions last about one hour each.

A treatment series can last as long as someone wants to keep coming back. Certain treatment series can also be worked out if someone wants to work towards a particular goal in a specific time frame.
